Do you want to make a difference? Then consider volunteering with us.
We’re always looking for new volunteers so no matter where your skills lie then we’re sure to have a role for you.
Volunteer counsellors make up the majority of our volunteers but we also have an awesome team of support volunteers who help us in the office with admin, meeting and greeting clients and fundraising
Volunteer counsellors and placement counsellors
Whether you’re already a qualified counsellor, or in your final year of training and looking for a placement then come and join us.
Our counsellors help our clients work through their experience and move towards a future where they are no longer defined by what happened to them.
We don’t stick to one type of therapy, rather we welcome counsellors from all different backgrounds and approaches. There’s no one way to work with someone, and it’s important that we can meet our client’s individuals needs.
As well as standard talking therapy, we also offer our clients Pre-Trial Therapy (counselling before their case goes to trial)
Working with people who have been affected by rape or sexual abuse can be challenging but you will make a real difference. No two clients are the same and you’ll experience working with a wide range of people
What we need from you:
You need to be qualified or in the final year of training.
Emphatic and able to keep strong boundaries.
You will need to have had 30 hours of personal therapy.
If you have been affected by rape or sexual abuse yourself then we do need you to have already had your own therapy for this, and that needs to have ended at least 12 months ago.
The commitment to attend our Induction Programme (6 – 8 weeks).
The ability to commit to seeing at least two clients each week, at the same time each week.
We’re always looking for people to join our amazing team of support volunteers too.
Our support team helps us out in the office – everything from answering the phone, writing letters and trying to get our staff to stick to proper admin routines!
Not admin focused? The perhaps meeting and greeting clients is more up your street. This is an essential role within our centre. You’re the first person that a client sees when they knock on the door so the ability to make someone feel relaxed and welcome (and to make a decent cup of tea!) is essential.
We’re always looking for people to help us with fundraising too, so if you have a skill at getting people to part with their cash then come and chat to us. We’re a small charity and funding is always an issue so this role really helps to make sure we’re more secure as a service.
Whatever your skills are, as long as you’re emphatic and willing to get stuck in then there will be a space for you.
What you can expect from us:
We won’t lie, volunteering in this sector can be emotionally tough so we try and put together a really tight package of support. From the formal to the informal, we want you to feel like you’re in a tight knit team and never on your own!
Once you’ve applied and had your interview, if everything’s ok then we’ll invite you onto our Induction Programme. This runs over 6 to 8 weeks and gives you all you need to get started.
After that, we offer reduced fee places on our CPD training sessions.
We offer free supervision to all of our counsellors with our experienced Clinical Lead. We also offer free Group Supervision too.
Our support volunteers can also access regular support meetings.
Our qualified counsellors and support volunteers are able to claim their travel and parking costs.
